Purpose of this Course
The OHS Act requires all employers to ensure that the workplace is safe for the employees. The risk of fires is present in most workplaces and employees must be aware of fire safety and the most effective way to extinguish a fire. This course gives the employee a theoretical background as well as practical skills to extinguish a fire.
Target Group
Employees that will be a member of a company’s Fire Team that is responsible for fire safety and fighting fires. General Employees & Fire Team Members.
Course Outline
MODULE 1:
1. The Elements of Fire
2. Classes of Fire
3. How Fires Spread
4. Methods of Extinguishing Fires
5. Advantages and Limitations of the different extinguishing agents
6. Choosing a method to extinguish a fire
7. Portable Fire Extinguishers
8. Fire Hose Reels
9. Using Extinguishers:
- Practical if presented at out training centre
- Practical at client's venue only if a safe place for making a fire is available
MODULE 2:
1. Fire Behaviour in Buildings
2. Policies & Procedures in case of a fire
3. Regulations and Bylaws regarding Fire Safety
4. Floor Plan and Evacuation Procedures
5. Compiling and Evacuation Plan
6. Fire Safety/Prevention in Industry - Theory Only (if presented at our training centre)
7. Fire Safety/Prevention in Industry - Inspection of Workplace (if course is presented on site)
8. Feedback and Report - based on practical exercise
MODULE 3:
1. Evaluation of Company Evacuation Policies & Procedures (only when training is presented at the client's venue i.e. on-site)
